On the Future of Europe

Today’s Europe has grown by a constant process of deepening and enlargement. The essential driving force behind this process has always been the will to create peace and prosperity in a liberal Europe. The current crises – and particularly the debt crisis – have raised doubts about how united Europe really is as an economic and legal community. In a number of states destabilising forces are on the rise. Nonetheless, the younger generation in particular takes a united Europe for granted. The topic of European integration is thus of particular importance for the Schleyer Foundation. The aim of our different initiatives is to point out the importance of a legal and constitutional framework and find ways to counter crises with short and long-term measures that preserve and strengthen the European Union and its values.
