Values are conveyed not by events and programmes alone but also, and especially, by people. Their actions serve as an example and a role model.
The Hanns Martin Schleyer Prize is awarded to people who have already shouldered responsibility in public for our democracy and the rule of law.
Both the Friedwart Bruckhaus Prize for young scientists and journalists and the Universitas Prizes for scientific journalism are also deliberately awarded to people who by their actions, their ideas and their convictions, often working on a small scale, have shown commitment to our society and a lively democracy.
Making a broader public more aware of these people and their work is one aspect of the programme the Schleyer Foundation has set itself.
